Support Trail Development in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Trails Association (STA) relies on the ongoing generosity of its donors to ensure that current and future generations can enjoy trails in Saskatchewan and discover that life truly begins off the beaten path.

The STA welcomes individual and corporate donations and there are also some exciting sponsorship opportunities available. You can also support the STA by becoming a member.

Donate

The STA welcomes individual and corporate donations to support our work in promoting the development and use of recreational trails throughout the province. Donors may choose to have their donation go toward a specific trail project, or to the STA’s general funds to be allocated to the area of greatest need.

There are two options to make a donation to the STA.

You can fill out one the forms below and send it to us with a cheque/money order by mail. A charitable tax receipt will be issued for all donations over $10. Please make cheques payable to the Saskatchewan Trails Association.

You can also make a donation online through CanadaHelps by clicking on the icon below. CanadaHelps is a registered charity that processes secure, online donations on behalf of Canada’s 80,000+ registered charitable organizations. After you make a donation, an official, electronic tax receipt will be emailed to you from CanadaHelps for donations over $10. Your credit card statement will show CanadaHelps as the vendor.

Donor Programs

The STA understands that each of our donors is unique. With that in mind, we offer several donation programs to best suit your needs. The STA has donor recognition programs for each donation level to ensure that your contribution receives appropriate recognition. If our programs do not meet your specific needs, please call us at 306-522-9326 or email us at info@sasktrails.ca to help you find the best way to support the STA.

All donor/honouree names will be published only with permission from the donor. All names will be published under the appropriate donation level. If an individual makes more than one donation at the same level (ex. 2 donations of $50.00), they will receive recognition for each donation, with the exception of having his/her name published under the donor level on the STA website (names will only be published under a donor level once on the donor page on the STA website). However, if an individual makes more than one donation at different levels (ex. 1 donation of $50.00 and 1 donation of $250.00), his/her name will be published under both donor levels on the STA website.

The “500 Footprints Club”

This club is comprised of individuals who have committed to a donation of $100 a year for five years. These generous annual gifts significantly contribute to the STA’s work promoting the development and use of recreational trails throughout the province. Like footprints, every dollar donated creates a lasting mark and ensures that future generations can discover Saskatchewan’s natural beauty through the exploration of its trail system.

The “Trail Enthusiast” Monthly Giving Club

The STA is pleased to offer a simple method to donors who wish to contribute financially on an ongoing basis to the work of the STA in promoting the development and use of recreational trails throughout Saskatchewan. By setting up pre-authorized payments through your bank (more on this later), credit card or PayPal account, the STA can automatically process your donation every month without the inconvenience of writing cheques or remembering to contribute. To join the “Trail Enthusiast” Club, a minimum donation of $10 per month is required.

Groundbreaker

Make your mark on trails throughout Saskatchewan by becoming the STA’s Groundbreaker! By contributing $50,000 to the STA your corporation will become the title sponsor of the Saskatchewan Trail Fund. This opportunity offers the greatest visibility for your corporation and offers exclusive benefits such as an invitation to speak at the opening of trails, as well as company name and logo on media releases for events, maps, and signage for trails funded through the Trail Fund.

Trail Champion

Be a leader in the fight for our cause and become a Trail Champion for the STA! By contributing $25,000 to the STA you will receive our basic sponsorship package with added benefits such as recognition in our Annual Report, a posting on Facebook and Twitter announcing your sponsorship, and a posting on the STA blog announcing your sponsorship and promoting your business. As part of this opportunity, your company logo will be displayed on the homepage of the STA website, giving your corporation greater visibility.

Trail Blazer

Be a pioneer and discover the impact a Trail Blazer for the STA can have on trails throughout Saskatchewan! Trail Builder

Pave the way for current and future generations to enjoy trails throughout Saskatchewan by becoming a Trail Builder for the STA! For a contribution of $5,000 this opportunity offers our basic sponsorship package with the added benefit of receiving valuable recognition in our Annual Report.

Trail Steward

Show your dedication to the restoration, preservation, and enhancement of Saskatchewan’s trail system by becoming a Trail Steward! This opportunity offers our basic sponsorship package for a contribution of $1,000. This package includes STA membership for one year, special recognition at the AGM, your company logo on the STA website, and an announcement of your corporation’s sponsorship in the STA newsletter.

Benefits of Becoming a Member

Trail Funding

All STA members are eligible to receive funding for trail-related projects through our trail building programs including the Partnership Initiative Program, which allocates third-party funding to dedicated trail projects; The Charitable Status Program, which allows donations through the STA to a specific project; and Members Trail Grant Program, which is still under development, but will allow for small funding grants for maintenance of trails. Trail Promotion and Advocacy

The STA will share any news and upcoming events that you may want to feature on its website and through social media. This news can also be shared through the STA newsletter, Tales from the Trails, and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (S.P.R.A.) newsletter, Recreation Works.

Saskatchewan Trails Day

The STA is the lead organization that uses this occasion to raise public awareness about the value of recreational trails and to encourage communities to celebrate seasonal trail use. For more information, click here.

Resources

STA is responsible for developing a number of resources for the trail community, including trail maps and guidelines and information on trail etiquette, bridge design and land negotiation agreements. Many of these exist on the website.

Insurance

The STA receives insurance from the OASIS Outdoor Adventure & Sport Insurance Solutions Inc. Established in 2007, OASIS provides programs for local, provincial and national associations and their members with a particular focus on not for profit. STA members can save hundreds of dollars on a policy by indicating they are a member when they book their insurance.

Membership Levels

Individual Members

An individual who is at least 18 years of age

Trail Members

Incorporated or unincorporated association of individuals in a particular geographic area in Saskatchewan
- Trail Group – members of which build and/or maintain recreational trails in Saskatchewan
- User Group – members of which use recreational trails in Saskatchewan

Provincial Members

Any provincial association

Life Members

Any person whom the Board of Directors deems appropriate
- Lifetime of the recipient

Family

All of the above are entitled to all the privileges of membership, including the right to attend and vote at members’ meetings.

Associate Members

Persons of the following can be admitted to associate member status:

Government of Canada
Province of Saskatchewan
Municipal corporation
A First Nation organization
A regional economic development authority
Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities
Community recreational associations
Any corporation

An associate member is entitled to all the privileges of membership, including the right to nominate an individual to attend meetings of the members on its behalf, but excluding the right to vote at such meetings.

Churchill River Water Legacy Project

The Churchill River system is a world class destination for thousands of canoeist, kayakers and anglers from across the world. It is also home to multiple First Nations communities whose people continue to use the land and waterways as they have for thousands of years.

The STA is working with the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport and the local community to improve the Churchill River canoeing and hiking routes by addressing one of its biggest challenges: dealing with human waste.

After extensive research into this challenge, a realistic and cost-effective solution was found in using Urine Diverting Vermicomposting Toilets (UDVT) manufactured by Toilet Tech Solutions (TTS). The technology separates the waste streams to allow for successful composting and has been proven to work through peer reviewed academic research and in the field by the people who have to maintain the systems. The TTS system is innovative, leading edge and most of all it works.

The STA and its partners would like to add several UDVToilets along this popular route along the Churchill River and in the north. This initiative will facilitate stewardship and lead to a cleaner environment and with an enhanced visitor experience. This is a wonderful opportunity to promote trail development in the north and showcase how important trails are in every community.
